Standard test method for trace nitrogen in liquid petroleum hydrocarbons (microcoulometric method)

A microcoulometric method for the determination of total trace nitrogen in liquid hydrocarbons boiling in the range from 50 to 550/sup 0/C is described. Reductive pyrolysis converts the nitrogen to ammonia which then reacts with hydrogen in a titration cell. The hydrogen ions consumed are replaced coulometrically, and the required replacement current is a measure of the nitrogen present in the sample. The method is applicable to naphthas, distillates, and oils containing 2 to 5000 ppM total nitrogen.
