Export and reinjection will take bulk of Iran's natural-gas reserves

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)

If all the large-scale gas-export projects planned by Iran are implemented, Iranian gas exports will total 2.5 trillion ft/sup 3//y (6.5 billion ft/sup 3//day), with investments reaching $15 billion. The largest projects involve agreements with the USSR, West Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Japan, and the US. By 1980, internal domestic and industrial gas consumption is expected to reach 3.2 billion ft/sup 3//day, the rapidly expanding Iranian petrochemical industry accounting for much of this gas offtake. However, the heaviest demand will be for reinjection gas in the Khuzestan fields--up to 13 billion ft/sup 3//day will be required for oil-well stimulation purposes by 1980.
