Hospital cedes 72% in share deal for maintenance

A Massachusetts hospital signed a 10-year shared-savings deal with Boston's Citizens Heat and Power Corp. (CHPC) for a major renovation of its building systems that will also require extensive maintenance. The agreement calls for CHPC to have a man at the hospital one day a week to maintain the equipment and monitor the savings in exchange for 72% of the energy savings. The hospital will have the option of purchasing the system when the contract expires. Major emphasis will go toward reducing the steam load and improving boiler plant efficiency, but the contract also calls for an energy management systems and lighting improvements, as well as repairs to steam traps.
