Hospital cedes 80% to attain fast shared-savings payoff

The Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts plans to pay off its shared-savings contract in two instead of the usual five to seven years so that it can purchase the conservation equipment. The hospital expects to save $250,000 in 1984 after all the projects are operating. The short-term contract calls for an 80/20 split of the savings between the contractor and the hospital. The project began with a 1982 energy audit and low-cost airhandling and chiller modifications, and has progressed to more-sophisticated control systems requiring outside capital. (DCK)
