Boiler retrofit to save hospital $63,650/yr

Journal Article · · Energy User News; (United States)

A Fairfax County, Virginia hospital expects a 2.5-year payback from a retrofitting project converting three oil-fired boilers to natural gas to extend to three years as the price of gas increases. The hospital's concerns about possible oil-supply interruptions were the main motivating factors. Other conservation steps include relamping and lowering electricity demand by demand limiting and duty cycling. An in-house energy audit led to the purchase of a computer-based temperature control system. Other measures are cited that will save $192,000 in avoided electricity and fuel-oil costs during 1982.
