Coherence transfer in metastability exchange in the mixture of the isotopes He/sup 3/ and He/sup 4/

We consider coherence transfer in the exchange of metastability in a mixture of He/sup 3/ and He/sup 4/. It is shown that this process results in appreciable shifts of the magnetic-resonance frequency in the 2 /sup 3/S/sub 1/ states of the He/sup 3/ and He/sup 4/ atoms. The appearance of these shifts, which has been predicted theoretically, is confirmed by experiments on the optical orientation and magnetic resonance of 2 /sup 3/S/sub 1/-metastable helium atoms. The dependences of these shifts on the temperature, pressure, and concentration of the helium isotopes in the He/sup 3/--He/sup 4/ mixture are determined.
