Metastability exchange in a mixture of helium isotopes at liquid nitrogen temperature

The optical orientation and the magnetic resonance of He$sup 3$ and He$sup 4$ atoms in 2 $sup 3$$S$$sub 1$ states in He$sup 3$-He$sup 4$ isotope mixtures have been investigated. The metastability exchange cross sections sigma (He$sup 3$-He$sup 3$) and sigma (He$sup 3$-He$sup 4$) were measured at liquid- nitrogen temperature. An appreciable difference between these cross sections was observed. (AIP)
