Observation of the. cap alpha. -particle breakup process at E/sub b//sup lab/ = 172. 5 MeV

Double-differential cross sections d/sup 2/sigma/d..cap omega.. dE have been measured for the (..cap alpha..,/sup 3/He) reaction on Ni isotopes at E/sub b//sup lab/ = 172.5 MeV. A distinct peak was found, having a half-width of approx. 40 MeV and a strongly decreasing intensity with increasing reaction angle. Theoretical evidence is provided to attribute this peak to the (..cap alpha..,/sup 3/He) stripping processing into the continuum.
