The last of a three-article series covers the importance of choosing an energy system management operator who can handle complaints about comfort levels from people he has traditionally helped to solve maintenance and comfort problems. Involving the future operator at the pre-purchase stage so that he can participate in shaping specifications and so that he identifies with the system will help, but the most important step is thorough professional training by the vendor. Alertness to errors and routine checks of the system as well as the involvement of all employees and management will help the new system succeed. Monitoring capability, a data system that can report building performance, and routine outside inspection will eliminate many potential problems.
