The final installment of this series covers the problems an energy-management-system (EMS) user faces once the purchase phase is complete. The company's selection of an operator who can handle employee complaints must begin by involving the operator in the pre-purchase and purchase stages so that he has a stake in the system's success. The operator should have thorough professional training by the vendor. Employee involvement should include direct encouragement from management for cooperation during the break-in period. It is important to develop a good data-reporting system to monitor energy performance. The single most-important step, however, is to have expert maintenance service through a service contract.
