In 1963, Husky Oil Ltd. completed a unique 2-way 6-in. pipeline in Alberta connecting the Hardisty terminal on the Interprovincial pipeline to the Lloydminster terminal. This 72-mile line passed through Wainwright field. By early 1965, it was operating near its capacity and further increases in demand were expected, so it was looped with an 8-in. line. Production increases and higher demand for condensate soon made this system inadequate, and Husky is just now completing a 10-in. line as another loop on the system. The entire pipeline system into and out of the Lloydminster terminal is under supervisory control. The solid-state system scans the pipeline network for alarm conditions and reports any malfunction to the control room at the Lloydminster terminal. Waterflooding is Husky's primary recovery techniques, but pilot tests include steam flooding, a Pusher project, and in situ combustion.
