Acid Rain, 1984. Hearings before the Committee on Environment and Public Works, U. S. Senate, Ninety-Eighth Congress, Second Session, February 2, 7, 9, and 10, 1984
Four days of hearings on the problems of acid rain began with testimony by Environmental Protection Agency Director William Ruckelshaus, who defended the administration's position that current scientific knowledge does not warrant additional sulfur oxide controls. He affirmed, however, that acid rain continues to be an area of concern, one in which the administration wants to establish scientific risk assessment before assigning the responsibility for risk management. Testimony was also given by 37 other witnesses, including the governors and senators of several states, energy and utility industries, and environmental and citizen groups. Additional material submitted for the record follows each day's testimony.
