Witnesses explained the atmospheric chemistry and meterology of acid rain and the effects of acid rain in a two-day hearing to determine whether, despite scientific uncertainty, legislative action is desirable at this time. The 19 witnesses presented the findings of Canadian and US environmental agencies, public health groups, and results from several research laboratories and universities. The hearing record includes their testimony, additional statements and materials submitted for the record, a briefing on the costs of controlling acid rain, and subsequent presentations and responses to questions.
