Lifetime of the 2[sub 1][sup +] state in [sup 154]Gd and deduction of the [alpha] coefficient for the 2[sub 1][sup +][r arrow]0[sub 1][sup +] transition

The half-life of the 2[sub 1][sup +] state in [sup 154]Gd has been measured as [ital T][sub 1/2]=1.184(5) ns using the fast timing [beta][gamma][gamma]([ital t]) method. The high precision of the measurement allows verification of the calculated as well as the previously measured total conversion coefficient for the 2[sub 1][sup +][r arrow]0[sub 1][sup +] transition.
