Lifetime measurement of the 2 sub 1 sup + state in sup 152 Nd and the B ( E 2; 0 sub 1 sup + r arrow 2 sub 1 sup + ) systematics of the A approx 160 region

A half-life of {ital T}{sub 1/2}=4.45(26) ns was measured for the 72.4-keV 2{sub 1}{sup +} state in {sup 152}Nd using a {beta}-{gamma}-{gamma} delayed coincidence technique. This result supersedes the half-life of {ital T}{sub 1/2}=7.7(20) ns that was tentatively measured for {sup 154}Nd and adopted for {sup 152}Nd in the recent compilation of the {ital B}({ital E}2) rates. In contrast to the latter value, the new result follows the smooth systematics of the {ital B}({ital E}2) rates in the {ital A}{approx}160 region thus negating the possibility of an abrupt structural change in the even neutron-rich Nd nuclei.
