Solid electrolytes in the system Li/sub 4/Geo/sub 4/-Li/sub 2/SO/sub 4/

The authors use x-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis to study the structure and ionic conductivity of solid solutions of the lithium germanate-lithium sulfate system. The introduction of lithium sulfate into the solution creates a structure of the gamma-lithium phosphate type with a very high ionic conductivity due to the presence of highly mobile lithium cations in the crystal lattice. The concentration of these internodal positive lithium ions is the principle factor affecting the conductivity of these electrolytes.
