Hearings were conducted on July 30 and August 1, 1979 to investigate the impact that the increased use of solar energy in residential and commercial buildings could have on the overall energy needs of the US Texts of the Committee print showing H.R. 605, H.R. 4987, and H.R. 2343 are presented. At the hearings, DOE and HUD reviewed the impact existing solar programs have already had and the potential impact of programs that will be operating in early 1980. Other witnesses focused on the economic impact of encouraging greater use of solar and the life-cycle cost of solar systems themselves. The hearings also focused on the role solar energy can play in the urban setting and what impact that might have on the urban poor. Lenders who are active in financing solar systems and others who have designed and installed such systems also testified.
