Electron detector for Moessbauer spectroscopy based on microchannel plates

A detector for Moessbauer spectroscopy is described in which the electrons emitted by the specimen are registered by an assembly of two microchannel plates. The detector design allows the specimen to be rotated within 0-90/sup 0/ relative to the incident beam of gamma radiation and cooled to approx.100/sup 0/K. Electrons and resonance gamma quanta that have passed through the specimen are registered simultaneously.
