Regulators mull scrutiny of EPRI

Angered when the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) awarded a research contract to a foreign firm instead of a New Jersey or other US pump manufacturer, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) began a management audit of EPRI contracting. Resisting New Jersey's call for an oversight committee, which could be interpreted as state ''porkbarrelling'', NARUC's effort will be more of a critique of management decisions. The regulators will also determine whether EPRI's agreement to support US pump research was coerced.
