The behavior of the effective diffusion coefficient D[sub eff] for the transport of solute species in corrosion fatigue (CF) cracks was investigated by using a triangular CF crack model. Analytical expressions are presented describing D[sub eff] as a function of a characteristic dimensionless parameter. Assuming relatively simple boundary conditions and considering the solute transport in the crack to be rate determining, the expected behavior of the crack growth rate as a function of [Delta]K and the frequency during constant load amplitude CF testing for steel in 3.5 pct NaCl solutions could be calculated.
