This patent describes an energy management control system apparatus comprising: bit carrying communication lines; first means electrically coupled to the lines for transmitting serial clock bits having transition edges, transmitting first serial data bits and receiving second serial data bits; second means comprising a group of stations, electrically coupled to the lines at spaced points along the lines; control means at each of the stations electrically connected to the serial clock bits from the first means for performing functions which include the following: counting transition edges of the clock bits from the first means; providing an address count at each station for each predetermined number of the edges and incrementing the address count by one for each of the predetermined number of the edges; providing a set address count increment for each station, whereby each of the stations can be set to a different increment than each of the other stations; transmitting and receiving serial information bit to the first means on the lines; and enabling each station control means fourth function when the address count increment from each of the control means second function matches the address count increment set in the third function for each control means whereby the stations are placed in data communication with the first means in sequence without the first means providing address bits to selectively communicate data with the stations.
