Single-electron characteristics of GFEU-30 hodoscopic photomultipliers

Factors determining the noise level, optical feedback, and secondary emission coefficient of GFEU-30 photomultipliers are investigated. Introduction of design changes and changes in the technology of fabrication of the dynode system reduced the noise level to 10/sup 3/-6 x 10/sup 4/ sec/sup -1/ and provided a secondary emission coefficient of approx. = 5-9 for primary electrons with energies of 180-200 eV.
