This paper presents the results of a study of the flashover voltage characteristics under steep-front, short duration pulse application to single distribution class insulators, wood crossarms and certain combinations of insulators plus wood crossarms under dry and wet conditions with both positive and negative polarities. Discussion of results follows the presented data, and comparison with CFO voltage for lightning impulses is given. The role of wood in composite insulation for steep-front is shown.
