Hartree-Fock description of deformed isotopes of thulium

We have used the Hartree-Fock theory with the interactions SkM/sup 1/ and S3 to calculate various properties of the ground states of deformed odd-even and odd-odd isotopes of thulium (A = 157--169), including quadrupole and magnetic moments, charge radii, and binding energies. We obtain satisfactory agreement with experiment. The SkM' forces best transmit the behavior of the isotopic dependence of the charge radii. A disagreement is observed between the results of the Hartree-Fock calculations and the prediction of the model of Myers and Swiatecki for the charge radii. The role of zero-point oscillations in the radii in the small-deformation region is discussed.
