Hartree--Fock calculations of the properties of long chains of Ba, Nd, Sm, and Gd isotopes

On the basis of the Hartree--Fock method with Skyrme forces, we have carried out calculations of certain properties of long chains of Ba, Nd, Sm, and Gd isotopes: binding energies, changes in mean-square charge radii, quadrupole and hexadecapole moments, and reduced probabilities of quadrupole transitions. It is shown that the use of effective SkM* forces in the calculations makes it possible to reproduce the experimentally observed dependence of isotopic changes in the charge radii and to establish the relationship of this dependence to the shell effects and to the presence of deformations in the nuclei.
