The quasiparticle Lagrange method, in which the energy dependence of the mean field is taken into account, is realized for even and odd axially symmetric deformed nuclei. Quadrupole moments and isotopic dependences of the mean-square charge radii {Delta}{l angle}{ital r}{sup 2}{r angle} are evaluated for Yb and Ho nuclei by this method and by the Hartree--Fock method with Skyrme forces. The results for the quadrupole moments obtained by the quasiparticle Lagrange method are in good agreement with experimental data, and this agreement is somewhat better than in the case of calculations with the Hartree--Fock method with SkM{prime} forces. For {Delta}{l angle}{ital r}{sup 2}{r angle} the two methods give practically identical results.
