Inelastic cross sections and multiplicities of secondary charged particles produced in collisions of relativistic nuclei with carbon and tantalum at 2. 3A and 4. 2A GeV/c

Data obtained in the 2-meter propane bubble chamber have been used in analysis of collisions of the nuclei p, d, /sup 4/He, and /sup 12/C with nuclei of carbon and tantalum at 2.3A GeV/c and collisions of /sup 19/F and /sup 24/Mg with carbon at 4.2A GeV/c. We discuss inelastic cross sections and the dependence of the average multiplicity on the projectile-nucleus mass number and on the number of interacting nucleons; distributions in multiplicity of ..pi../sup -/ mesons are analyzed.
