Analysis of the behavior of the. pi. /sup -/ multiplicities and cross sections in the interaction of relativistic p, d, and He and C nuclei with carbon and tantalum nuclei

Experimental data are reported on the inelastic interaction of protons with momenta in the range p/sub p/ = 2--10 GeV/c and of deuterons, helium nuclei, and carbon nuclei with a momentum per projectile nucleon in the range p/sub 0/ = 2--5 GeV/c with carbon and tantalum nuclei. The experiments were carried out with the 2-m propane chamber of the High-Energy Laboratory of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The experimental data are analyzed on the basis of various theoretical models.
