Electrochemical power generation
Patent

OSTI ID:6519159
A power generation system is described comprising: an electrochemical cell including a reactive metal anode, a cathode spaced from the anode, and an electrolyte comprising an aqueous solution of the hydroxide of the reactive metal; a source of an acid or salt having a first anion comprising at least two elements with at least one of the elements being a non-metal. The anion upon contact with the electrode hydrolyzes to yield at least second and third anions which react with the hydroxide of the reactive metal to yield at least one compound of the reactive metal which is insoluble in the electrolyte; means for contacting the electrolyte with the acid or salt to form the insoluble compound; means for separating the insoluble compound from the electrolyte, and means for recirculating the separated electrolyte to the electrochemical cell.
