This report describes the natural contamination test results of insulator strings at inland areas. Natural exposure tests with -280 kV dc voltage energization were carried out for 5 years. The effect of dc voltage application on salt deposit was not notable except on the both sides of the insulator strings. These results are the same as those obtained in sea-side testing stations. The maximum value of leakage current was 3 mA and no flash-over occurred with electrical stress per unit string length of about 100 kV/m. The application of these results to insulation design for HVDC transmission lines is also discussed.
