Assessment of European district-heating technology

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6486753
The report assesses European district heating turbine, piping, consumer connection, and thermal energy storage technology from the viewpoint of its application to prospective implementation of district heating systems by electric utility companies in the United States. Since hot water is generally used as the heat transport medium in Europe, it is the basis for the technology study. Major emphasis is placed on European turbines with condensing tails, prefabricated insulated conduit, consumer connections using three-stage heat exchange, and thermal energy storage.
