Big Gilda plays important role. [Offshore platform in the Santa Barbara Channel]

Journal Article · · Drilling Contract.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6485191
Union Oil Co., of California came on stream in January 1982 with production from 2 new platforms that established a world's record for more slots than any existing platform. The record-making platform is Gilda, which has slots for 96 wells, or 16 more than the previous record-holder, Shell Oil Co.'s Platform Ellen in Beta Offshore Field in California's San Pedro Bay. Union's other platform is Gina, which has slots for 15 wells. The reason for the large number of slots of Gilda is to eliminate the need for a second platform if a deeper pay proves widespread beneath the platform. The company anticipates that further exploratory drilling will be necessary from the platform to fully define the deeper pay. A description of the platform is provided.
