Truly cost effective passive water heater

A thermosiphon solar water heater with open loop anti-freeze was tried in the northeast US using home made altered gas water heater for a heat exchanger tank, flat-plate collector using 323 recycled aluminunm cans, cattails for insulation and double polyvinyl chloride sheeting. Wood reflectors were attached with flexible metal straps along bottom in Winter. Collector was laid, not bolted to roof over auto tires. Adequate hot water was obtained.
