Telomerization of isoprene with n-methylaniline on complex palladium catalysts

In the telomerization of isoprene with N-methylaniline on complex palladium catalysts, a mixture of N-methyl-N-(2,7-; 2,6-; 3,7-; 3,6-dimethyloctadien-2,7-yl)anilines is obtained, and their ratio is dependent on the solvent and composition of the catalyst. 1-Iododimethyl-2,7-octadienes and trimethylphenylammonium iodide are formed under the effect of MeI on a mixture of N-methyl-N-(dimethyloctadien-2,7-yl)anilines. The Pd(OAc)/sub 2/-Ph/sub 3/P catalytic system causes deamination of N-methyl-N-(dimethyl-octadien-2,7-yl)anilines on heating with the formation of dimethyl-1,3,7-octatrienes and N-methylaniline.
