Tracking the strategic plan

Journal Article · · Strategic Plan. Energy Manage.; (United States)

Tracking strategy, or evaluating progress toward a predetermined objective, is discussed as an important issue for top management. Several reasons for this are examined, the most obvious is purely procedural: The development of formal strategic planning systems, a process still evolving in many firms, raises questions of operational and strategic control. The authors note that the recent volatility of the economic, political, social and technological environment within which companies now operate has led many top managers to question both the definition and conduct of their major businesses. A number of respondents point out that their senior managements do not participate, or show sufficient involvement to make the tracking of strategic plans an undertaking of serious proportions. Periodic meetings between division management and corporate management could improve strategic planning-tracking processes.
