Strategic planning in a natural resource company
Pennzoil's strategic planning process is described. The five year plans and a tenth year view of the three operating companies, plus expense projections of the corporate support divisions and interest and tax projections, are combined into a Pennzoil Corporate Consolidated Plan. Analysis of financial implications and long-range financial planning issues are incorporated into the Plan. Alternative low and high probability cases are included to indicate a broader range of possible operating and financial projections. Each operating company plan contains a summary of strategies, projected income results by major divisions, and appropriate profitability and cash flow measures. Pennzoil's corporate strategies and objectives resulting from the ''top up and top down'' process are included in the corporate consolidated plan document. (JMT)
