Strategic planning in a rapidly changing environment
Part I of this book illustrates the concept of strategic planning for an audience of managers in complex organizations. These organizations may be business, nonprofit, large government, or other types of organizations. The reader will gain a better awareness of the complexity of strategic planning and how effective strategic planning requires a great deal of management effort to formulate corporate strategies and even greater management effort to effectively implement these strategies. Part II describes in detail the application of strategic planning in a major United States firm and the environment of the energy industry in the United States from 1960 to 1975. Then a detailed description is given of the strategic planning process of Southern California Edison Company (SCE). Finally, the SCE's strategic planning process is evaluated using four different measurement standards. Part III describes research findings of strategic planning, makes recommendations to management based on that research, and summarizes the concept of strategic planning.
