Three days of hearings on H.R. 2734 addressed the issue of wellhead and nondiscriminatory price deregulation. Under consideration were proposed legislation to the repeal the Fuel Use Act, as well as issues involving incremental pricing, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission contract regulations, and the possible deregulation of old gas. Energy Secretary Herrington opened the hearings with a discussion of the need to encourage new production and exploration. Other witnesses represented the natural gas industry, consumer and other public interest groups, and large consumers. Additional material submitted for the record by the witnesses and other interested parties follows the text of H.R. 2734 and the testimony of 21 witnesses.
