Correlated np pairs from the p shell of the carbon nucleus

A diffusion chamber in a magnetic field has been used to measure the cross section for the reaction /sup 12/C+..gamma -->..p+n+/sup 10/B as a function of ..gamma..-ray energy, and also the distribution in relative energy of np pairs in the intermediate energy region. It is concluded that the main mechanism of the reaction is the interaction of the ..gamma.. ray with a correlated np pair from the p shell of the carbon nucleus.
