Local businesses and representatives of the natural gas industry were among the witnesses at a hearing held to explore marketing alternatives for Alaska's natural gas reserves, which amount to a proven 26 trillion cubic feet in the Prudhoe Bay area and an estimated 109 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas to be discovered in the Arctic area. The formation of new pipeline companies, competition with Canada for Pacific Rim markets, and the role of government on the financing of natural gas development and distribution were the major points of discussion. Three appendices with responses and additional material submitted for the record follow the testimony of 18 witnesses.
