A description of a unique combination of a jackup drilling rig and the technique of slant drilling are described in this article. The combination will enable gas fields to be exploited using the minimum number of fixed drilling platforms while ensuring that each platform is capable of draining gas from the maximum area of the field. It will also enable the wellhead platforms to be smaller, less expensive and quicker to construct. (DMC)
