The present conference on the nature of heterogeneous combustion processes and their applications gives attention to topics in the combustion of dust-air mixtures, liquid fuels' combustion, and heterogeneous combustion processes. Among the topics discussed are a novel experimental apparatus for the study of dust-air flames' propagation, turbulent dust combustion in a jet-stirred reactor, an analysis of droplet combustion at supercritical conditions, soot concentration fields in heavy liquid fuels' flames, and the ignition of n-butane over a wide temperature range. Also discussed is the use of plasma-jet ignition for lean-burning engines, the combustion reactivity of coal chars, the optimization of an industrial glass furnace, and radiation and convection effects on flame propagation over a solid fuel bed.
