Role of radiative loss in the behavior of the plasma in the T-10 tokamak

Experiments on the radiative loss in the T-10 tokamak yield conclusions about how the plasma parameters affect this loss and the impurity influx into the discharge. The results indicate the existence of an optimum position of the plasma column and that it is possible to reduce the radiative loss in the central part of the plasma. The concentration of iron-group elements in the central part of the column increases as the discharge current is raised, as the shadow of the limiter is reduced, and as the light-impurity concentration is reduced. The radiative loss may be regarded as a mechanism for the loss of energy from the plasma.
