Radiative losses in the T-10 tokamak

Pyroelectric detectors have been used to measure the radiative losses in the T-10 tokamak. These were found to play a decisive role in the plasma energy balance over a broad range of plasma properties. The space--time distribution found for the radiation indicates that ions of heavy impurities are important in the radiation and energy balance. Limiters of various types did not redistribute losses significantly. The radiative loss is greater near the limiter than far from it, but the loss near the limiter is still only a small fraction of the total radiative loss.
