Automatic photomultiplier gain regulator for study of relative spectral density

Journal Article · · Instrum. Exp. Tech. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)

A gain-control circuit for a photomultiplier with a louvered dynode system (FEU-154) is described that varies the anode potential within the limits of +10 to -15 V (corresponding to gain reduction by a factor of 15). The curve of relative spectral sensitivity of the photomultiplier remains unchanged with accuracy of not worse than 1% (although it is distorted when the photomultiplier supply voltage is changed). The regulator is used in a device for stabilization of photomultiplier spectral sensitivity over a wide region with respect to reference radiation in a part of the region and also to measure the ratio of radiation fluxes in two spectral regions.
