Social and economic impacts of increased coal production

Journal Article · · Energy (Stamford, Conn.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6410226
To cope with the socio-economic impacts of population growth and urbanization associated with energy development, specifically coal production, state and local governments will need advance information to prepare for adequate additional facilities and services and they will need front-end funds to provide these facilities and services before the new people arrive. An influx of new workers will bring new ideas, values, and behavior patterns to communities. This article reviews steps being taken at local, state, and federal levels and by industry to resolve these problems.
