Field hearings in Chicago and in Tyler, Texas and a third hearing in Washington considered natural gas production and pricing issues. Witnesses were asked to discuss the impact, particularly for the elderly, on consumer prices associated with Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) gas, the role of state regulators in setting production levels, and the practice of prorationing by interstate pipelines. The witnesses included local realtors and businesses, gas utilities, regulators, consumer groups, and representatives of the gas production and distribution industries. The field hearings focused on consumer problems in Chicago and on producer problems in Tyler. Material submitted for the record follows the testimony of 44 witnesses.
