Transportation of natural and other gases and liquids by pipeline occupational safety and health standards
The U.S. Materials Transportation Bureau (MTB) withdraws an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) which requested advice, recommendations, and information relating to the issuance of additional occupational safety and health standards for the protection of employees engaged in the construction, operation, and maintenance of pipeline systems and facilities used in the transportation of hazardous materials. Comments submitted in response to the ANPR indicated that the issuance of additional occupational safety and health standards by the MTB would be a duplication of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration's efforts and would increase the possibility of jurisdictional disputes. Since the MTB's present standards development efforts are primarily directed at public safety (as opposed to occupational safety) by regulating pipeline design, construction, operation, and maintenance activities, the MTB withdraws the ANPR.
