Study of ruthenium in zeolite-Y by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Journal Article · · J. Catal.; (United States)

A study of ruthenium in zeolite-Y by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed that the ruthenium remained in the zeolite cavities during reduction and during the methanation reaction, but that oxidation at elevated temperatures resulted in the migration of ruthenium as oxide to the external surfaces, a process accompanied by a decrease in binding energy. During the methanation reaction at 280/sup 0/C, a decrease in binding energy from 281.0 to 280.1 ev and particle growth from < 10 to approx. 15 A. was observed.
