Transportation of natural and other gas by pipeline hot taps in gas pipelines

This US Materials Transportation Bureau notice of proposed rulemaking would amend an existing regulation and ensure that the internal gas pressures of two pipelines are compatibly ascertained by pressure gages prior to their connection and subsequent gas flow between them. For this purpose, it is proposed that only properly trained personnel carry out hot tap procedures which involve branch piping connections to operating pipelines or mains while they are in operation and under gas pressure. This precaution would prevent accidents associated with connecting two lines of incompatible pressures.
